The Northern Key (self titled) LP is out today and availabe on iTunes, Amazon and through the Tricycle Records store. Singer / songwriter Andrew Galluccio is hardly a new member of Tricycle Records; as the bass player for The Red Verse, he has been part of the Tricycle family for years. We are excited to now release this collection of his songs, reminiscent of Mark Kozelek and Elliott Smith that truly capture the spirit of indie folk.

As The Northern Key, Andrew Galluccio unlocks a familiar world of folk music for the next generation of listeners. Galluccio’s gentle guitar and haunting harmonies melt pretension with pure expression; his tender voice thawing even the coolest cynic. This world is our companion, our comfort, and the perfect complement to any reality.

‘The Northern Key’ came alive at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco with Chris Chu (The Morning Benders) recording and mixing, and local musician Jen Grady contributing vocals and cello — in just 24 hours. Such spontaneity allowed years of dreaming to crystallize into a well-crafted — but not overworked — work of art.

The electro dream-pop project captures the eerie dramatics of The Knife and the syrupy darkness of Ladytron to build a dynamic, exultant sound all their own. Silver Swans take their name from a group of super-villains in the Wonder Woman comics that possess the vocal ability to create a destructive ’swan song’. The musical counterpart Silver Swans, however, are far from the evil and destruction of their namesake.  What began in 2007 as a dancy electronic track floating between producer Jon Waters and musician/vocalist Ann Yu, soon flourished into a full length record. The Red Verse play the 17th Annual Noise Pop Festival Saturday February 28th at The Rickshaw Stop, with special guest Luisa Black (The Blacks) on guitar. This Noise Pop bill is structured around headliner Clues (member of the Unicorns and Arcade Fire). Other support acts include Loch Lomand and Harbours. Doors at 8:30 PM / All Ages / $14 cover.

Our South by Southwest event The Bay Area Takeover is just around the corner. We are working overtime with our event partners at The Bay Bridged to guarantee this year’s event is not only memorable, but makes SXSW history! After many months of preparation, Tricycle Records and The Bay Bridged are proud to announce that the Bay Area Takeover is back! After last year’s big success, we’re throwing another six hour unofficial day party during the 2009 South by Southwest Music Festival, with performances by over a dozen of the San Francisco Bay Area’s hottest artists representing a broad cross-section of the Bay’s fertile and diverse music scene, including our own Tricycle artists The Frail, The Union Trade, The Red Verse and a very special new addition to our roster.

The 2009 Takeover takes place on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 from 12pm to 6pm at Austin’s Beauty Bar.  Once again, the party’s FREE, but you need to RSVP at TheBayAreaTakeover.com to receive priority admission.

We’ve got an absolutely amazing lineup to share with you at the Takeover. The show’s headliners–Sub Pop folk-rock masters Vetiver, acclaimed A/V DJ Mike Relm, and indie pop buzz band The Morning Benders–are leaders in forging the Bay Area’s cosmopolitan music identity, and they’ll be joined by some of the hottest up-and-coming San Francisco groups, like Sholi, whose debut album comes out on Quarterstick/Touch and Go Records on February 17th.
